"The Vermont Pharmacists Association awarded Congressman Peter Welch with its inaugural ''Mortar & Pestle Award" at its fall meeting on September 26, 2014 in Colchester. The award recognizes Congressman Welch's extraordinary efforts on behalf of community pharmacy. Currently he serves as the co-chair of the House Community Pharmacy Caucus. In addition, Congressman Welch has sponsored or endorsed numerous pieces of legislation that seek to help patients through the strengthening and preservation of community pharmacies including legislation to have Medicare recognize pharmacists as health care providers. In addition, he is a sponsor of the HR 4215 Medicare Pharmacy & Fair Audit Act". His office is responsive to the VPA's needs and proactively reaches out to our association to determine how other pieces of legislation could potentially affect our patients.
